What is Laser Engraving Machine & Laser Cutting Machine?

What is a laser engraving machine

A laser engraving machine is a piece of advanced equipment that uses a laser to engrave the materials that need to be engraved. The CO2 glass tube is produced by gas ionization. The laser has a strong burning ability after being concentrated, and the carving and cutting effects can be achieved by burning the object. The laser head of the laser engraving machine swings left and right during operation, and each time it carves a line composed of a series of points. Then the laser head moves up and down simultaneously to carve multiple lines and finally forms a full page image or text.

The laser engraving machine is widely used in the arts and crafts production, advertising, and processing industries, and its application fields are increasingly divided finely and professionally. Jinglaser is a laser equipment manufacturer with 15 years of manufacturing experience. We have a lot of valuable experience in equipment production and strong R & D technology to tailor laser engraving and cutting machines for customers with different needs.

The deep application of laser engraving machines brings convenience to customers’ production and processing and makes customers’ products more perfect. Laser engraving can be divided into dot matrix engraving and vector cutting according to different engraving methods: dot matrix engraving dot matrix engraving resembles high-definition dot matrix printing.

Dot matrix engraving can be used for scanned graphics, text, and vectorized graphics. Vector cutting is different from dot matrix engraving. Vector cutting is carried out on the outer contour of graphics and text. We usually use this mode to perform penetration cutting on wood, acrylic particles, paper, and other materials, and we can also mark the surface of a variety of materials. Laser and laser processing is a fast-developing high-tech, which has become one of the key technologies and equipment for developing new industries and transforming traditional manufacturing industries. All kinds of laser (marking, welding, fine-tuning, drilling, cutting, marking, heat treatment, etc.

Systems and equipment have entered or are entering various industrial fields, such as electronics, light industry, packaging, gifts, hardware industry, medical equipment, automobile, machinery manufacturing, steel, metallurgy, petroleum, etc., providing advanced technical equipment for the technological transformation of traditional industries and the modernization of manufacturing.

Summary of common carving materials and related common sense

1. Carving logs and bamboo wood crafts (unprocessed wood and bamboo board)

Wood is by far the most commonly used laser-processed material, which is easy to carve and cut. Light-colored wood such as birch, cherry, or maple can be easily gasified by laser, making it more suitable for carving. Each kind of wood has its own characteristics; some are denser, such as hardwood. When laser engraving or laser cutting, greater laser power is required. Laser engraving is widely used in carving characters on bamboo boards and bamboo sticks to make handicrafts.

2. Laser engraving laser cutting plywood and density board

Engraving on plywood is similar to engraving on solid wood. The application of laser cutting machines in engraving and cutting children’s toy wood panels has been very mature. One of the easy conditions for laser cutting splice plates is that the materials are blackened. After repeated testing and research, we have developed a jinglaser laser engraving machine, which can eliminate the blackening with a special laser tube. Welcome friends who have laser engraving to consult and cooperate, and welcome to purchase. The hardness of plywood made of different wood types is also different, and the cutting speed and power depend on the wood types. Now the laser is more and more widely used in the field of density plate cutting, especially in the field of photographic tubes

Wood photo frame carving has become very popular.

Generally speaking, engraving on wood is usually shadow engraving, and the engraving depth is generally required to be deep. In this way, the power is generally set at a high level. If hard wood is encountered, the color of the carved image may become darker. If you want to make the color lighter, you can increase the carving speed and try to carve more times. When some wood is carved, some oil smoke will be attached to the wood surface. If the wood has been painted, it can be carefully wiped off with a wet cloth. If it is not painted, it may not be cleaned, causing the surface of the finished product to be stained.

Wood cutting photo frame is mostly used. The cutting of density board requires high power. After experience, it is generally recommended to use a laser cutting machine of more than 130W, with a speed of 10-20mm / s. The advantage of laser cutting photo frame is that it is not limited by the drawing opening. Any graphic design can be engraved by computer input. Complex graphics can also be produced, with high production efficiency.

3. Acrylic laser cutting and laser engraving (a kind of plexiglass)

Acrylic is the most commonly used laser engraving material. It is easy to cut and engrave. It has a variety of shapes and sizes, and the cost is relatively low. The laser engraving machine is mainly used to engrave the plexiglass produced by casting, because the frost effect produced after laser engraving is very white, which has a sharp contrast with the original transparent texture. We have made a large number of acrylic cutting samples and engraving samples, and recorded many working videos. If you need to know about cutting acrylic by laser cutting machines, please contact us. Plexiglass cutting

Plexiglass is relatively easy to cut. If the customer’s requirements are not high, it can be delivered after cutting without flame polishing. Otherwise, an air blowing device should be used during cutting to improve the quality of the incision. When cutting plexiglass over 8mm, replace the high-power laser tube.

Note: operators shall not leave when cutting plexiglass, and there may be flame during cutting.

4. Double color plate laser engraving and laser cutting

Double color plate is a kind of engineering plastic specially used for engraving, which is composed of two or more layers of colors. Its specifications are generally 600 * 1200mm, and a few brands have specifications of 600 * 900mm. American powmark is recognized as the best product with stable quality and complete varieties. The engraved two-color plate is usually used for various indication signs and badges. The two-color plates can be divided into two categories: mechanical plates and laser plates. Some mechanical plates can also be used for laser engraving. The characteristics of laser engraving plates are: the surface color layer is thin (< 0.1mm), and the laser plates are generally 1.3mm-0.8mm. Mechanical board is generally 1.5mm). Our experience is that if the surface color of the board is very thin, laser engraving is generally allowed. If the surface color is thick, try engraving twice

Carving

If a laser plate is used, the engraving plate will have a very good effect, with obvious contrast and clear edges. When a mechanical plate with a thin surface is used, the engraving effect is not very different from that of a laser plate. If you look carefully, the edge may not be as clear as that of a laser plate. Generally, the user should not use the mechanical board with thick surface, otherwise the laser power should be adjusted to be small. The bottom surface can be removed as much as possible for repeated engraving, and the final effect may not be very good. On the double color plate with large contrast (such as blackboard), the gray-scale image can be designed to be engraved. After a large number of engravings, the double color plate itself may be deformed. It can be heated by hot water and leveled by hand.

Cut

Generally, users will ask you to cut the two-color plate. If you use a laser plate, you can cut it after engraving. Note that the speed should not be too slow and should not be cut through at one time. It should be carried out in three or four times, so that the edge of the cut material is flat and there is no melting trace. When engraving, the power should be just right, not too large, to avoid melting marks. If you use a mechanical board, you can only cut it to 50% of the depth, then cut it by hand and grind the edge flat with sandpaper. If you have a mechanical machine, you can cut it on the mechanical machine first, and then carve it on the laser machine.

5. Glass laser engraving

The laser can engrave on the glass surface, but the engraving depth is not deep and cannot be cut. In general, the laser can form the effect of frosting or breaking on the glass surface. Usually, users want to get the effect of frosting rather than breaking, which depends on the texture and hardness of the glass.

Laser engraving

We have always had the following experience in carving: apply a little cleaning on the area to be carved, load down a piece of newspaper or napkin slightly larger than the area to be carved, soak the paper completely with water, squeeze the excess water in the area, and put the wet paper on the carving area to smooth without wrinkles. Put the glass in the engraving machine, engrave when the paper is still wet, then take out the glass, remove the residual paper, and clean the glass surface. If necessary, lightly polish the glass surface with 3M ScotchBrite. In general, the laser power should be set lower, the accuracy should be set at 300dpi, and the engraving speed should be faster. You can try to use large-scale lenses for engraving.

Vector cutting is carried out on the outer contour of graphics and text. We usually use this mode to cut through wood, acrylic, paper and other materials, and can also mark on a variety of material surfaces.

Main methods of laser engraving and laser cutting:

  1. Dot matrix engraving

dot matrix engraving is very similar to high-definition dot matrix printing. The laser head swings left and right to carve a line composed of a series of points each time, and then the laser head moves up and down at the same time to carve multiple lines, finally forming a full page image or text. Dot matrix engraving can be used for scanned graphics, text and vectorized graphics.

  • Vector cutting

Vector cutting is different from dot matrix engraving. Vector cutting is carried out on the outer contour of the picture and text. We usually use this mode to perform penetration cutting on wood, acrylic particles, paper and other materials, and can also mark the surface of a variety of materials.

  • Engraving speed

engraving speed refers to the moving speed of the laser head, usually expressed in IPS (inch / second). High speed brings high production efficiency. Speed is also used to control the depth of cutting. For a specific laser intensity, the slower the speed, the greater the depth of cutting or engraving. You can use the engraving machine panel to adjust the speed, or you can use the computer’s print driver to adjust it. In the range of 1% to 100%, the adjustment range is 1%. Hummer’s advanced motion control system can enable you to achieve ultra-fine engraving quality at high speed

  • Engraving intensity

engraving intensity refers to the intensity of the laser beam hitting the material surface. For a specific engraving speed, the greater the strength, the greater the depth of cutting or engraving. You can use the engraving machine panel to adjust the strength, or you can use the computer’s print driver to adjust it. In the range of 1% to 100%, the adjustment range is 1%. The greater the strength, the greater the speed. The deeper the cut

  • Spot size

the spot size of the laser beam can be adjusted by using lenses with different focal lengths. The small spot lens is used for high-resolution engraving. The lens with large light spot is used for engraving with lower resolution, but it is the best choice for vector cutting. The standard configuration of the new equipment is a 2.0-inch lens. Its spot size is in the middle, which is suitable for various occasions.
